We are OC Eagle Eye reporters, and this is The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (LBD)review! You have all most likely heard of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, but have not heard of LBD.  The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is a YouTube channel that is a modernization of the story of Pride and Prejudice.  It takes place in Los Angeles, California where young Lizzie Bennet is getting a masters degree in communications.  For her thesis project, she decides to vlog her life and explore the depths of internet communication.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is practically perfect in every way. From its lovable cast to its witty humor, this YouTube channel will most definitely give you the feels.  The main characters are Lizzie Bennet, Jane Bennet, Lydia Bennet, William Darcy, and Charlotte Lu.  Lizzie’s openness about her life’s triumphs and foibles makes her a great protagonist and an interesting character to watch develop.  Lizzie’s upfront attitude is well complemented by the reservedness of her sister Jane and the wildness of her younger sister Lydia.  Darcy, although he does not physically appear until later in the series, has an overwhelming presence in the lives of the Bennet sisters.  When he does appear he causes quite a stir in Lizzie’s and the viewers’ hearts.  Charlotte is Lizzie’s best friend and helps to rein Lizzie in when she tries to go to far.  If you have read Pride and Prejudice, then the puns and character development will have you crying tears of laughter.  Lizzie’s humor shines through her costume theater antics and ability to engage the audience with her funny monologues.

Not only is LBD hysterical and heartwarming, but it also confronts issues that women face in the modern world through its strong female protagonists.  Lizzie is earning a masters degree, so she is representative of women who engage in higher education and wish to make their mark on the world.  Although she is not entirely sure of what she wishes to pursue post-graduation, she is confident that she will eventually find something that she loves to do.  Jane does not possess the same confidence as her sisters, but when the time comes to choose between her love interest, Bing Lee, and her career she decides to follow her dreams and move to New York.  She doesn’t fall prey to the need to have a romantic relationship; she chooses herself.  Lizzie’s younger sister, Lydia, has a vivacious personality that blinds her to the more manipulative aspects of a certain person’s character, so she finds herself trapped in a horrible situation.  With the help of her family, she is able to regain her confidence and face her demons.  She realizes her mistake and moves forward with her life.

If this hasn’t convinced you to watch LBD yet, then take into consideration the help that this channel would offer you when studying for Pride and Prejudice (looking at you, freshmen) and the accessibility that a modern take on this classic tale provides.
