Dancing With the Olympians

Have you tuned in yet for Dancing with the Stars’ 23rd season, which features Olympic champions? This year’s round of contestants includes gold medalist gymnast Laurie Hernandez and 12-time Olympic medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte. Laurie and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, kicked off the season with a fun and exuberant cha-cha number that showed Hernandez’s ease on the dance floor. They walked away with a score of 31 points, tying first place with competitors James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess. Also starting the season with a splash was Ryan Lochte with his partner, Cheryl Burke. Despite the drama after Lochte and Burke’s first performance, the duo received a standing ovation.

The “Most Memorable Year” episode, which aired on October 10, was sure to be a roller-coaster of emotions. Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke performed a passionate contemporary dance to “Song for You” by Leon Russell, which Lochte dedicated to his mom. But the tears did not stop there: Laurie Hernandez stepped out with Val Chmerkovskiy and rocked a lively and fierce Paso Doblé dance to “Rise” by Katy Perry. Hernandez shared her history of injuries and setbacks on her road to the gold and proved to the world that she could overcome those challenges. She continues to impress fans worldwide on Dancing with the Stars.

But the story doesn’t stop there. Recently, OCHS held an assembly for our own gold medalist, Amanda Polk. She hinted there that she might be interested in “dancing with the stars”. Will we be seeing our own Olympian up there someday? Tune in to Dancing with the Stars to find out!
