In late August, it was announced that Sony and Disney would not be working together anymore. This was because Disney wanted a 50/50 co-financing contract, but Sony refused because they thought it was too much to give up, since Spider-Man is its most valuable franchise. As a result, Kevin Feige, the President of Disney-owned Marvel Studios, would not help produce the future Spider-Man films. He had very limited time because of his producing roles in other Disney films which also would have caused some problems. Marvel fans were shocked at the news. Many had questions such as, “where would Spider-Man end up?” and “how would Sony make the transition of Spider-Man from one multiverse to another?” One possible answer to these questions is that Spider-Man could end up with Venom, because he could travel to his dimension and back to his own.

However, in more recent news, Sony and Disney have agreed to some terms. These terms have not yet been revealed, but they allow Marvel and Kevin Feige to make another movie. If things work out and go smoothly, there could possibly be more movies. The third Spider-Man movie, starring Tom Holland, will be released on July 16, 2021. Many people were excited to hear that the two studios will be working together again on another Spider-Man movie.  Kevin Feige commented, “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what the future might hold.”

It is a smart decision that Sony and Disney have come to terms, because not only does it keep the fans happy, it also keeps the two sides happy. It is definitely beneficial that Disney and Sony made up, because the revenue of the box office receipts will be shared. Spider-Man also has video games that are quite popular. This is especially important in today’s world because playing video games is a very common pastime for youth and even adults. There is no need to worry about Spider-Man at the moment, so get ready for the next movie!
