Oakland Catholic’s English Department welcomes Dr. Theresa Doerfler to the faculty.  Dr. Doerfler has a bachelor’s degree from The University of Notre Dame, a master’s degree from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D from The Ohio State University.  Prior to joining Oakland, Dr. Doerfler was also an adjunct professor at CCAC and taught at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School.  In addition to be a teacher, Dr. Doerfler worked as an editor for a local publishing company; she helped authors prepare their books for print.

Dr. Doerfler said that as a high school student she especially admired her English teachers and wanted to be like them as an adult. She saw how her English teachers shared their knowledge and love of books with their students. Dr. Doefler said, “I love teaching books that are surprising to students like The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien or Hamlet.”  Teaching poetry is also something she enjoys.  Ann Patchett, Jane Austen and Henry James are just a few of her favorite authors. Oakland Catholic is very happy to welcome Dr. Doerfler and Dr. Doerfler said she is “very happy to be here!”
