Last week I had a chance to sit down with my friend Kavya Weaver for an interview. Since her parents are missionaries who travel to new places frequently, she’s had the chance to live in some amazing places.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Memphis and I lived there till I was three, then my family moved to central India until I was 6. We then moved back to Memphis until I was about eight. Next we lived Northern India until I was 10 and we moved to Pittsburgh in 2012. I think we’ll stay here for my entire high school career. I like it here in Pittsburgh a lot.

Has it been hard moving around in your life?

I’m used to it. When I was younger I was always excited to move around, although it was always hard to leave my friends.

What has been your favorite place that you’ve lived?

I like all of them for different reasons, but I really love northern India and Pittsburgh. We lived in the foothills of the Himalayas, so it was really beautiful and there was a lot of amazing wildlife.

How do you like OC?

I love it! It’s really cool. I love the teachers and I think Oakland has a really good atmosphere.

What are some ways you think your life is different from that of a typical OC student?

I have a multicultural family; my mom is Indian, and that’s a big part of my identity. I think I have a lot of cultural experiences, which is important to me, but it can be difficult.

Do you have any siblings?

I have a sister who’s 13, a brother who’s 12, and a sister who’s 9. I really love having a big family, but it’s definitely hard to have privacy sometimes.

How do you get involved at OC?

I play the piano, I volunteer at Maria Goretti on Thursdays, and I’m part of the Global Competence Initiative.

What are your favorite classes?

English and History.

What is your spirit animal?

A dolphin, I love swimming and the ocean.
