On Wednesday February 27, the OC music department, led by Mrs. Sonya Cáceres, put on yet another wonderful cabaret performance, this time with the theme: “Heroes and Villains.” A special thanks to goes out to all involved, especially the pianist Dr. Mackey.

The Heroes and Villains Cabaret started off with Cassie Moats channeling her fierce inner ice-queen singing “Let It Go” from Frozen, blowing us away in an icy blast with impressive belting that showcased her vocal control. All throughout the evening, performers masqueraded on stage either as a protagonist, such as the Eagle Eye’s own Editor-in-Chief, Clara Albacete, singing “Everything I Know” from In The Heights, or as a villain such as Nadirah Johnson, who channeled the despicable Mrs. Meers into her wonderful performance of “They Don’t Know” from the Broadway musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Although most of the evening’s performers sang, there was a special instrumental performance, “Capriccio” on the violin by Yolanda Yang. The longest cabaret yet, with more performers than ever, this show was split into two acts by a five minute intermission. The second half was packed full of popular musical numbers such as Jane Fusco performing “Burn,” and Hannah Bernacki and Bella Enfield performing “Dear Theodosia” both from the broadway hit Hamilton. Ending with Madison Phillips and Angela McKinzie singing “Children Will Listen” from Into The Woods, the whole cabaret ensemble joined in for a phenomenal closing number.

All in all, the Heroes and Villains Cabaret was a smashing success, and I cannot wait to see the next show during the Spring Arts Performance!
