The Champions League

The Champions League

Eva Lucchino ‘15, Editor-in-Chief

It’s big, it’s great, it’s better than ever, and you’ve most likely never heard of it.  It’s the Champions League!  The Champions League is composed of the best club teams from various countries in Europe. The most notable countries are England, Germany, Spain, and Italy.  There are several rounds of elimination prior to the group stage, which is set up similarly to the group stage of the World Cup, but with more games.  The winner and runner-up of each group then proceed to the knockout stage, where one penalty kick can be the difference between going to the finals or being sent home.

If you enjoyed the World Cup, then you will love the Champions League!  There are many similar players, and lots of drama, especially where Luis Suarez (A.K.A. Dracula) is involved.  Find a team to support and jump on the bandwagon.  Some great teams to root for are: Liverpool (the best Premier League team out there), Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona (¡A mi no me gusta!), and AC Milan.

I follow Liverpool, one of the greatest teams in Premier League’s history (and that is not just my opinion, but a fact), and watching their games is so exciting.  A game of soccer is a new surprise every time.  A team that should be easily beaten may rise to new heights and be better than ever.  Every win matters in a competition and seeing your team do just that is a great feeling.  If you’re interested, watch the next game you can, and prepare yourself for the knockout stage, which is a rollercoaster of emotions.  Don’t just take my word for it, watch a game and you will surely fall in love!
