Attention…Row! The Countdown to Midwest Begins

Emma Holtz '20, Literary Arts Editor

Some people call it crew, others call it rowing. We call it a family of 31 dedicated, and hard-working young women. Every water practice, indoor workout, and bonding session throughout the year was in preparation for the biggest race of our season: The Annual Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships at Dillon State Park in Nashport, Ohio. Approximately 49 club crews and 554 team entries from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and western Pennsylvania competed for domination over the Midwest region. Races began Saturday morning on May 12th, and ended Sunday, May 13th with the semi-final races. Our four-boat finished in 6th place out of 16 teams and advanced to the National Schools’ Championship Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 10th!

Ever since the season started back in September 2017, our entire team has supported one another with care, love, and enthusiasm! Every PR, or personal record, brings us one step closer to victory in the race season, fulfils dreams of rowing at the collegiate level, and quite possibly of training as an Olympian! Let’s bring home the gold, ladies!
