As spring weather finally begins to roll into Pittsburgh, the Oakland Catholic Crew Team has been working nonstop on the Allegheny River to polish their skills before the Annual Midwest Scholastic Championships at Dillon State Park in Nashport, Ohio. Approximately 49 club crews and 554 team entries from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and western Pennsylvania will be competing for domination over the Midwest region. Races begin Saturday morning, May 11th, and will go into Sunday, May 12th, as long as boats qualify for semi-final races. In order to qualify for nationals, each of our boats must place in the top 3 in their respective final heats on May 12th. The Team has made some great strides this season, most recently on Sunday, April 28th  at Moraine State Park. The first varsity 8-person boat, first varsity 4-person boat, and lightweight 4- person boat all placed first and second varsity 8-person boat placed 3rd.

As well as getting lots of racing opportunities thanks to good weather, OC Crew welcomes the addition of two new coaches this season: Ellen Morell and Jessica Hughes! Both of these women have amazing insights into the sport of rowing and we cannot be more thrilled that they have decided to pass along their knowledge to us this spring 2019 season.

This year, we’ve got our sights on gold!
